Mesmerizing Lake Tso Moriri, Ladakh

Flanked by snow-capped lofty barren hills, the first sight of this serene salt water lake will blow you away. It is vast, beautiful and peaceful. The striking contrast of the pure blue water amidst the rugged terrain makes its unique.

This high altitude (14,836 feet) ‘Mountain Lake’ is situated in the Rupshu Valley, around 250 kms away from Leh.

As we started our journey from Leh to Tso Moriri, for quite some time we were accompanied by the River Indus. The flowing river, the surrounding barren hills, the rugged cliffs, patches of greenery along the river, purple stones along the road and the clear blue sky led us to Tso Moriri.

The lake is located at an altitude of 4,522 m (14,836 ft)

Because the lake does not have any outlet, the water is brackish and salty.
